It was a rain of Naira Saturday in Abuja as Peoples Democratic Party realised more than N21 billion at its fund-raising dinner towards next year’s general election from donors spanning business, elected government officials, and private individuals. Although the president, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who was billed to be the chief launcher, was absent at the dinner held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, the event received huge financial commitment from those present.

PETROL LANDING COST NOW BELOW PUMP PRICE


Against the backdrop of the fall in global oil prices, the landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, has dropped to N82.57 per litre as of Thursday, December 18, from N127.57 on November 3.
The Federal Government’s spending on petrol subsidy has, therefore, fallen to a five-year low of N1.06 per litre as of that, compared to N44.94 on November 3, according to data obtained from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency. Subsidy refers to the money paid, usually by government, to keep prices below what they will otherwise be in a free market system. For instance, the Expected Open Market Price (retail price) of petrol is N98.06 per litre as of December 18, but the regulated price is N97. The difference is subsidy.

CBN BANKS MOVE TO TACKLE E-FRAUD

Central Bank of Nigeria and the Committee of e-Banking Heads are set to partner with other stakeholders in the financial sector to mitigate the spate of electronic fraud in the country. As a result, the CBN said it would adopt a more collaborative approach towards achieving improved regulation of the nation’s payment system.
These were contained in a communiqué issued after a special conference organised by CeBIH in Abuja recently.

PIRATED COPIES OF OBASANJO'S BOOK SELL FOR N7,000

Pirated copies of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial autobiography titled ‘My Watch’ have flooded the streets of Lagos State, selling for as low as N7,000. The development came after a Federal Capital Territory High Court judge, Justice Valentine Ashi, ordered that security agents, including the police and men of the Department of State Service, should confiscate all copies of the book.
Our correspondent learnt that Obasanjo’s original book which has three volumes, costs about N15, 000 while the pirated copy, which has two volumes, costs less than half the price and comes in a white cover as opposed to the original’s yellow and brown colour. Our correspondent, who spoke to hawkers selling the book in the Maryland and Opebi areas of the state, was told that Obasanjo’s original book had become scarce.

NGO PLANS 1MILLION JOBS FOR NIGER DELTA YOUTHS

An NGO, Waltz Environmental Solution, said it planned to create one million jobs for the youths in the Niger Delta, including Cross River, in the next ten years. The Director of the organisation, Mr Samuel Ekong, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Calabar on Sunday, that the jobs would be in technical areas, especially in oil and gas.

MUHAMMAD ALI IN HOSPITAL WITH PNEUMONIA


Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was admitted to an undisclosed hospital Saturday with pneumonia, his spokesman Bob Gunnell said. Ali’s treatment prognosis is good, he said. Ali, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is being treated by his team of doctors and is in stable condition,” Gunnell said in a statement. MY DAD DIED TWICE SAYS EX-MINISTER'S SON
