BILL GATES TO DONATE N8 BILLION TO FIGHT EBOLA

Billionaire, Bill Gates, through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is set to spend $50 million on the fight against Ebola.

This was announced yesterday, September 10, 2014, by the organization’s President of Global Development, Chris Elias.

The money will reportedly be used, along with an earlier set-aside sum of $10 million, to support emergency response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

NIGERIAN MAN IN UK ARRESTED FOR N57 MILLION ROMANCE SCAM

Two men in the UK have been arrested and found guilty of perpetrating a dating scam and one of them is a Nigerian.

The Mirror reports that 37-year-old Adewunmi Nusi and Monty Emu, 28 have been convicted of money laundering after illegally obtaining £220,000 (N57,810,815.37) from vulnerable women who were looking for love.

The charade was carried out on dating site Match.com  and victims were made to believe that they were making contact with a man called James Richards.

A 37-year-old man has been remanded in prison for defiling his ward, a 14-year-old boy.

On Wednesday, Yakubu Danladi, was arraigned on a one-count charge of ‘unnatural offence’ before a Magistrates’ Court in Minna. Danladi allegedly committed homosexual acts with a 14-year-old boy, Ahmed Mohammed, in his house in Minna.

A  report in the Nation newspaper claims that Boko Haram has agreed to swap some of the abducted 219 Chibok girls for 18 members. A schoolgirl was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend despite her mother warning police he had threatened to kill her, an inquest was told today.

Arsema Dawit, 15, was stabbed more than 50 times by her obsessive ex Thomas Nugusse in the lift of the block of flats where she lived with her family in June 2008.

Her mother, Tsehynesh Medhani  went to Kennington police just over a month before the brutal killing, but Southwark Crown Court was told that officers took two weeks to interview Nugusse and were still investigating when Miss Dawit was attacked.

UPDATE!: RIGHT GROUPS DEMAND PROSECUTION OF POLY STUDENT RAPIST

Human rights organisations have urged the government to commence investigations into the alleged rape of an Ibarapa Polytechnic student in Eruwa, Oyo State, by a soldier attached to the Oyo State security outfit, Operation Burst.

PUNCH Metro had reported on September 9, the ordeal of the 21-year-old ND 2 student of Mass Communication (name withheld) who said the soldier raped her three times.

The President, Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, described the act as a reflection of abuse of power by security agents. She urged the government to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrator to book.

POLICE ARRAIGN MAN FOR RAPE

The police have arraigned 21-year-old Onyebuchi Ebili before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for unlawfully having carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old SS2 girl.

Ebili was said to have committed the offence with the help of two other people.

The incident happened on August 31, 2014 .

Onyebuchi Ebili was arraigned on Wednesday on three counts of rape and theft.

POLICE RESCUE FRAUDSTER FROM ANGRY MOB

Policemen attached to the Area F Command in Lagos State have rescued a suspected fraudster from being lynched by an angry mob in the Ojodu-Berger area.

The suspect, Akinnifesi, was handed over to the police who were on a patrol.

Akinifesi had, three weeks earlier in the Mushin area, reportedly duped one Daud of N10,000 belonging to his brother, who sent him to withdraw N5,000 from his Diamond bank account.

MEN ON REVENGE MISSION KILL CHURCH VISITOR

A 22-year-old man, Tope Kadiri, who was on a visit to his parents at an orthodox church, has been stabbed to death.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning at Aduragbemi Street, Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent, who visited the street, saw traces of blood in the area where he was reportedly gagged and stabbed to death.
