The police in Edo State have arrested an 85-year-old man for allegedly raping a girl of seven. The suspect, Peter Elaiho is said to have had forceful sexual intercourse with the child at Ogida quarters in the Egor local government area of the state. The militant group also murdered 120 of their own men, most of them foreign fighters trying to return home, in the last two months, the British-based monitoring group said Sunday.

AT least, 10 persons were on Saturday night killed by unknown gunmen who attacked the Tattaura village in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Tattaura is a community in Ancha District of Ninzo Chiefdom in the southern part of the state. The village is two kilometres east of Gwantu, the council headquarters.

Eyewitnesses said five others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Akwanga General Hospital in Nasarawa State. The attack on Tattaura reportedly started at about 10.00pm on Saturday night, shortly after the community celebrated Christmas with fanfare. It was learnt that the community usually organise dances amongst children, youths and the aged during the yuletide in the area.

No fewer than 23 people were killed in a Boko Haram attack in the Mozogo district in Cameroon’s Far North Region, an official said. The regional governor, Mijiyawa Bakary, confirmed the attack by the Nigeria-based Islamist militants, but did not give further details. “We are still gathering the facts from our divisional officers, but what we know for now is that the attackers killed at least 23 people. The damage could be more,” he said.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ijede Police Station, Nwaoha Uzoma, has died. Source learnt that Uzoma’s corpse was found in his office on Thursday, a day after he entered and locked himself in. It was gathered that after he did not pick his calls, anxious relatives and policemen in the station broke the door open and saw his lifeless body on the floor. From the information we gathered according to Punch , Uzoma, a Superintendent of Police, was formerly heading the Anthony Police Division, before he was posted to Ijede, in the Ikorodu area, early in December.
