The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said that the regular use of painkillers especially, paracetamols could lead to heart attacks, stroke and early death, The Guardian reports. According to a study published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases journal, patients prescribed high doses of the painkiller for long periods were 63% more likely to die unexpectedly. There is also a 68% higher chance of having a heart attack or stroke and an almost 50% greater chance of having a stomach ulcer or bleed.
BORNO BOMBING UPDATE: DEATH TOLL RISES TO 100
The death toll from three weekend blasts in Borno State has risen to 100, reports say. The three bombs went off within hours of each other on Saturday, March 7, in Maiduguri, the state capital. Authorities initially pegged the casualty figure at 58 but a source at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital told Vanguard that most of the injured victims who were brought into the hospital did not survive. Some victims who were taken to the Umaru Shehu Hospital and the State Specialists Hospital were also said to have succumbed to their injuries.
