AMVCA 2015: HOW KUNLE AFOLAYAN'S 'OCTOBER 1' DOMINATED NOLLYWOOD'S BIGGEST NIGHT


Kunle Afolayan is probably the happiest filmmaker in Africa right now as his most recent movie ‘October 1’ dominated the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) winning nine prizes! ‘October 1’ which had a total of 13 nominations won the awards for ‘Best movie’, ‘Best Director (Kunle Afolayan) and ‘Best Actress in a Drama’ (Kehinde Bankole). It also won the awards for ‘Best Costume Designer’
(Deola Sagoe), ‘Best Lighting Designer’ (Lanre Omofaye), ‘Best Make-Up Artist’ (Lola Maja), ‘Best Sound Editing’ (Kulanen Ikyo), ‘Best Art Director’ (Pat Nebo) and ‘Best Drama Writer’ (Tunde Babalola).
The action thriller (released in 2014) beat the likes of Lancelot Imasuen’s ‘Invasion 1897’, Zeb Ejiro’s ‘Yellow Cassava’ and two other movies to win the coveted prize of ‘Best Movie’
The movie features the likes of Sadiq Daba, Kehinde Bankole and many more.
“I want to thank the cast and crew for putting so much effort into this. I want to thank the Lagos State Government and Raji Babatunde Fashola also”, Afolayan said as he collected his award.
The 2015 AMVCA held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Expo hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
