A YOUNG netball star has been killed in a collision on a garage forecourt.
Eilish Herron, 17, died at the scene after being knocked over at the Asda garage in Linwood, Renfrewshire, at 2.30pm yesterday.
It is believed she was filling her Renault Clio with fuel when she was hit by a Ford Focus.
Last year, the teenager was named Young Sports Person of the Year in Renfrewshire for her playing and coaching. A spokesperson for the Paisley Netball Club called Eilish a star player last night and said her team were devastated by
her death.
She added: “We can’t take it in. She was the most bubbly, helpful, attractive and enthusiastic girl. Nothing was too much trouble for her.
“She was a tremendous player and an incredible coach and she was a wonderful ambassador for the sport. She has so many friends, who will be devastated.
“Her family should be very proud that she was such an amazing young woman.”
Devoted mum Shanneal was a regular fixture at Eilish’s games and was always there to cheer her on.
Eilish was a founder member of Paisley Junior Netball Team and her coaching skills were in demand from schools across Renfrewshire after she started teaching the sport when she was only 14. Her school, St Andrews Academy in Paisley, were so impressed by her skills and personality that they made her an ambassador for sport.
In a tribute when she won Young Sports Person of the Year, her PE teacher Mark Fulton said Eilish had been chosen to inspire other youngsters.
He added: “She is very enthusiastic. It radiates from her. When she is coming to PE she is bouncing down the corridor full of passion for the sport.”
Eilish – whose younger brother Neil is a talented footballer – passed her driving test only a couple of weeks ago and had
just started driving on her own.
The male driver of the other car involved in the crash was unhurt. Police inquiries continue and a report will be submitted
to the procurator fiscal.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
