EKITI INSECURITY: FAYOSE MEETS POLICE AUTHORITIES

Worried by the recent cases of mayhem threatening the security of lives and properties in Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose, on Monday, swiftly called a meeting of the police authorities in the state, among other stakeholders, so as to take a proactive measure to address the problem.
Recall that in the last few weeks, no fewer than three bank robbery operations were recorded in different parts of the state, leading to the loss of lives, among whom were police officers and a female member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

This is even as no fewer than six persons including three nurses,and a Director of Administration in Ado Local Government, Mr. Tayo Olawuyi were abducted by agents suspected to be kidnappers.
The height of it at the moment was Sunday’s attack on the Federal Prisons, Ado Ekiti, which saw an official of the prison and about 20 sniffers killed by a yet to be identified group.
Against this backdrop, as the chief security officer of the state, Fayose,who could not hide his displeasure immediately summoned a marathon meeting of the state Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, DPOs among other stakeholders.
The meeting was said to have provided an opportunity for the governor to have a better understanding of the problems, as well as seek lasting solution to them.
At the meeting Fayose called on security personnel to always advise and furnish the State Government with information that will ensure peace and safety for the people of the State.
Fayose, who however commended the state Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu for being professional and dedicated to duty, however, acknowledged the fact that police have been working round the clock to ensure the safety of the people of the state.
Pledging to collaborate with them for a peaceful and safe atmosphere, the governor charged the officers to redouble their efforts to meet the current security challenges in the country, saying each challenge is meant to fortify the officers for greater challenges.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lakanu described the visit of the Governor to the police headquarters as first of its kind in recent times.
According to him, the governor has been up and doing to ensure adequate security for the people of the state since his assumption of office.
He noted that the visit will further reassure the officers of the readiness of the State to support them in ensuring a crime free society.
Lakanu, who noted that the killing of some officers in the command will never deter them from being dedicated, but rather energize them, however appealed for adequate compensation of the those who lost their lives in the attack.
