Chris Brown is hoping to move forward—with everything.
The 25-year-old singer covers Billboard magazine's latest issue where he talks about his past and, as teased on the mag, admits, "Maybe I was out of the control." However, after his interview took place, the celeb was at the center of an unforeseen incident when music mogul Suge Knight was shot at during Brown's VMA pre-party in Hollywood.
Following the scary event, Breezy reached back out to Billboard to give an exclusive statement about attempting to move past all of the drama.
"I realize that what I do for a living opens my life to public scrutiny and that I have a responsibility to everyone because of that exposure," Brown tells Billboard.
"I can say that I am only human and I have made mistakes. I can say that I try to live my life in the most true, honest way that I can. I am not perfect, no one is. No one is harder on me than me. No one can please everyone. No one can live in the past and expect to grow. I have been moving forward and hope that I am not defined by just a few moments in my life but all of the moments that will make up my life."
On Aug. 23, the 49-year-old former CEO of Death Row Records, whose real name is Marion Knight Jr., was attending a party Breezy had hosted at the 1OAK club ahead of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place later the next day. Several shots were heard and Knight and two other people were hit, police told E! News, adding that an investigation has been opened.
"It's disappointing that we as a society can't have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes," tweeted Brown at the time of the shooting.
Suge Knight also recently addressed the shooting, telling TMZ that he didn't know who was behind it all, but "even if I [did know], I don't think that's really important, who pulled the trigger and who I seen pulled the trigger, I think that I'm doing extremely well, I'm happy to be doing well and whatever happens, happens."
He added, "I went to the club, I enjoyed the club, I was shot inside the club and one thing my father always told me [is] no matter what it is, you never give up. You never quit if you start something, or you walk in a place one way, no matter what goes on, you leave the same way as a man. I was shot and I think it was important that I wanted to walk and make sure I got to the right place."
No arrests have been made.
