MAN MURDERS GIRLFRIEND FOR REFUSING MARRIAGE PROPOSAL


According to  Nigeria leadership news today, A man identified as Raphael Effiong has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta, Lagos, Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly stabbing his estranged lover to death for refusing to marry him.
Effiong,28, a native of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, allegedly killed Gift Sunday, 26, after she rejected his marriage proposal at a popular hotel in Ketu area of the state.

LEADERSHIP FRIDAY understands that Effiong met the deceased, a fashion designer, in Lagos last year and they became lovers.
It was further gathered that the duo had gotten along so well, until Effiong got infuriated when his lady-love turned down his proposal for marriage.
Some angry words were exchanged, the duo got entangled and, blinded by his fury, Effiong reached for his scissor and stabbed his girlfriend in the breasts and armpits.
Neighbours heard Sunday’s cries and rushed to her aid. They took her to a nearby hospital where attempts by doctors to save her life came to nothing, as she died from profuse bleeding as a result of injuries sustained from the injuries.
In a bid to avoid prosecution after committing the crime, Effiong allegedly fled, but was apprehended and handed over to the police in the area.
The police later transferred the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
When the matter came up in court yesterday the suspect’s plea was not taken.
The presiding magistrate, Justice F.J. Adefioye, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi, Lagos, while the prosecutor, Mrs. Iyobosa Onaiwu was directed to duplicate the case file and forward them to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice on the case.
