A female teacher who tried to protect her pupils from Taliban terrorists who attacked the Army Public School and Degree College in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, yesterday,Afsha Ahmed, was burnt alive. Shocking eye witness accounts emerging after the attack reveal that the 24-year-old was doused with petrol and set ablaze while her pupils watched. Afsha reportedly confronted the terrorists when they entered their classroom. "You can only kill my students over my dead body," she reportedly said.
One of her pupils who witnessed her execution, Irfan Ullah, said even as Afsha burned, she managed to ask her terrified pupils to flee.

54 SOLDIERS SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MUTINY
The General Court Martial sitting at the Army Headquarters Garrison in Abuja yesterday sentenced 54 soldiers to death after finding them guilty of mutiny. 59 soldiers were on trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny and mutiny.
Four of them were however acquitted. While the judgment was going on, stern looking soldiers posted at the entry gate into the Mogadishu Barracks, turned back journalists saying they had instructions not to allow the media into the barracks. An officer who was at the Court Martial however confirmed that 54 of the 59 soldiers were sentenced to death. The 59 soldiers who were serving in the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state, allegedly refused lawful orders by their commander to proceed on a mission to clear out terrorists and secure a town for subsequent military deployments.

POLICE ARRAIGN MAN FOR TORTURING SEVEN - OLD HOUSEMAID

A 32-year-old man, Chinyere Agoura, has been brought before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for torturing his housemaid. It was learnt that the seven-year-old housemaid, Munachi Ibeaka, is the daughter of one Mrs. Patricia Ibeaka. Patricia was said to have given out the girl to Agoura, her cousin, who lives in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, sometime in 2013 to relieve the burden of fending for her family of four after her (Patricia) husband died. Both the defendant and the widow were arraigned by the police before the court’s magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja.
UPDATE: TORTURED LAGOS COUPLE TO SUE POLICE FOR N100M
The couple that was tortured by a police corporal attached to the Ikoyi Police Division has perfected plans to sue the police for N100m damages. A lawyer with the Femi Falana Chamber, Austin Audu, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the matter would be taken to court on Monday. source had reported how Ejeh Smith and his wife, Grace, were on their way home in a cab around Lekki area of Lagos State, when a police corporal, Dada Ogunsanya, stopped the driver. Our correspondent reported that after conducting a routine check on the cab and the driving licence of the driver, Ogunsanya beamed his torch on the passengers. They were said to have protested the action, saying the inner lights of the cab were on and there was no need for the action. In the ensuing argument, which degenerated to a scuffle, Ogunsanya, allegedly tortured the couple by hitting Ejeh in the eye with the butt of his rifle and stepping on his wife’s stomach.
BOKO HARAM THREATENS EMIR OF KANO IN NEW VIDEO
Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the extremist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for mobilising support against the sect. In well publicised statements, Sanusi asked Kano State residents as well as vigilantes, to arm and defend themselves against future terrorist attacks following a recent attack on the Kano Central Mosque. The latest threat was contained in a video posted on youtube and viewed on Wednesday by our correspondent.Shekau condemned Sanusi and adherents of most Islamic sects, describing them as infidels who have abandoned the Islamic doctrine. He said they should be ready to repent and practise Islam as preached by his sect, or be ready to face the consequences.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has dissociated itself from rumours making the rounds that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, gave his blessings to the vice-presidential ambition of a former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
The All Progressives Congress had on Wednesday named Osinbajo, who is said to be Adeboye’s close ally, as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The RCCG denied celebrating the emergence of the law professor who pastors its Olive Parish located on Banana Island, Lagos. Writing on its official Twitter page on Wednesday, the church said it does not dabble into politics in any shade or colouration.
