He threatens with knife anytime I’m with another man —Wife An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court in Ekiti State has dissolved the 10-year-old marriage between Mr Taiwo Kayode, 39, and his wife, Folashade, 39. The marriage was dissolved on grounds of frequent beatings, threat to life and lack of respect for the wife’s family. Folashade told the court that her husband beat her anytime she requested for money for household materials. She said her husband also lacked respect for her family members, citing an instance when the husband beat her sister.
Folashade, a mother of two, said her husband formed the habit of threatening her life with knife each time he saw her with another man. She claimed he sent her packing from their matrimonial home several times on flimsy excuses. which included indecent dressing. Taiwo denied all the allegations, and accused the wife of adultery. According to him, the wife usually brings different men to her matrimonial home. Taiwo told the court that his wife had earlier married two other men before he married her. Dissolving the marriage, President of the court, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, observed that it had broken down irretrievably.
Ogunsemi awarded custody of the children to the wife and ordered that the husband should pay N4,000 on each child as monthly allowance.
