A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party would destroy the country if it was not stopped in the 2015 elections. Buhari said this while addressing party delegates that would vote in the APC presidential primaries slated for December 10 in Calabar, Cross River State. He said the country had lost so much in the last 15 years that the PDP had been in power.
He said, “We have lost so much. What has become of the Nigeria Airways, our shipping lines, railways among others. Infrastructure is going down and also the rising level of insecurity.
“The PDP has failed badly in its 15 years of rule so far. Everything is going down in spite of all the money. What are they doing with the money? “We must stop the PDP from destroying this country. If we don’t get rid of the PDP, the PDP will get rid of Nigerians. We are fed up. Whatever your sentiments let us work together and rebuild this country.” He urged the people to get their permanent voter cards to enable them to vote next year. “Make sure you get the PVC, because it is only with it that you can vote out the PDP,” he said. He solicited the support of the delegates, saying that he would do his best if voted to be the next President in 2015. Buhari lamented the menace of Boko Haram in the north-eastern part of the country, adding that the activities of the sect had nothing to do with religion. In his comment, the state Chairman of APC, Pastor Usani Usani, described Buhari as humble, disciplined and intelligent.
He said Buhari’s coming to the state proved that he had not taken the state for granted given that he was not the only one seeking to be president. At Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Buhari said that if elected president, he would galvanize the economy and cause a general turnaround in Nigeria, even as he promised to provide gainful employment for jobless Nigerians. Buhari spoke during a visit to Rivers State to solicit the support of the APC national delegates in the state ahead of the party’s presidential primaries. Addressing the delegates at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt Wednesday, Buhari bemoaned the infrastructural decay in the country and the poor leadership offered by the ruling PDP.
“My message is just to remind all of us about the condition we are in this country and that next year, 2015 is another political watershed in this country. If we allow by any means the PDP to continue, I don’t think by the end of their next term of four years even Nigerians would be able to recognise their country, because all you need to do is to compare what state we were in 1999 when the PDP took over the centre and most of the states. “In terms of infrastructure, we used Nigerian Airways, we used Nigerian railways, we used Nigerian Shipping line, even power at that time was relatively stable, more stable than it has been now after spending $20bn,” he said.
