Recently, a lady who was on a motorcycle
had her handbag snatched by one of the two men on another motorcycle in Kubwa, in Bwari Area Council. Although the one conveying the victim summoned courage to pursue and recover the bag from the snatchers, the thieves, however, escaped, driving recklessly on the road.
The incident was witnessed by Abuja Xtra on Phase 3 Road as the snatchers were pursued from the Federal Housing axis.
When Abuja Xtra sought their opinions, residents of the area said the incident was a recurring one.
One of them spoke about similar incident at Channel 8 area where the purse of a young girl on a motorbike was also snatched by thieves who operated on a motorcycle.
He said, “This happens here almost every day and their target is mainly all these young girls. Those guys know the girls are weak and cannot easily overtake or overpower them so that is why they target them.”
He went further to say that it appeared their activities were beyond what security agencies could handle, owing to their mode of operation.
A woman who gave her name as Rita told Abuja Xtra of incidences along the notorious Lagos Street where thieves and even car snatchers had a field day.
She recounted how they had broken into people’s shops, forced shop owners there to part with their money and other valuables at night and in few occasions snatched cars, as well as stole parked cars.
