Gone are the days when the only holiday you can afford is a soggy weekend in Cornwall, because you can now fly from Britain to the USA for £99. Of course, that is only one-way. The return journey will set you back another £125, making the total cost £224, which is still far cheaper than any other current transatlantic flight. The other catch? You will have to go via Iceland.
Icelandic airline WOWair owner Skuli Mogensen, said: ‘This is just the beginning of our plans to transform low-cost transatlantic flights.‘We’re opening the market to a whole new range of travellers who might previously not have been able to afford transatlantic travel.’WOW air also said they hope the innovation will ’cause our rivals to re-evaluate their plans’.
If you chose to take advantage of the cheap flights, which go on sale today, don’t expect any luxuries (but do expect some hidden charges).
There are no in-flight movies or entertainment, and drinks and food are not included in the price.
Not to mention the fact that putting any luggage in the hold will cost you an extra £39, and a seat with extra legroom will set you back a further £14.
Despite these issues the flights will only land you in New York or Boston two hours later than if you flew direct, and you could save youself somewhere in the area of £300.
