IT was a moment of sadness and confusion for the family of late Mr. Onwe Nwogbaga of Ojiegbe at Nkalika in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebony State as news of how their son was allegedly beheaded by his wife, Ijeoma Nwogbaga, with a machete reached them.The suspect, who allegedly took to her heels after the act, was later apprehended by a search party organized by friends and neighbours in the community.
In his account, a brother-in-law to the victim, Mr. Simon Nwunna, who went to the home of the victim in the early hours of the morning, said he discovered the lifeless body of the victim lying in his sitting room in a pool of blood and covered with a wrapper.
He said: “When I went to visit Mr. Onwe on the fateful day, the door to his sitting room could not open. I knocked and there was no response.
“When I forced the door open, I saw the lifeless body of my brother-in-law lying in his pool of blood.
“I shouted and called on neighbours. Without hesitation, villagers gathered at the scene asking about his wife who was nowhere to be found.”
Vanguard learned that the victim’s head was almost severed by the cut he received and that his body was full of injuries, with blood still gushing out of his lifeless body.
A source said whoever carried out the dastardly act must have done it at night when the victim was sound asleep or that must have invited criminals to assist.
The source revealed that when the villagers went to the back of the victim’s house, they saw the exact spot where he was murdered and dragged into the house.
The source said: “We began searching for his wife and went to her family’s place.
“Suddenly, when she saw us, she took to heels and then everybody pursued her until she was apprehended.
“The case was quickly reported to the Criminal Investigation Department in Abakaliki for further investigation.”
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the woman had confessed to the crime and that investigation was ongoing to get to the root of the matter.
The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, mortuary.
