A 32-year-old man, Umaru Mustapha, has been remanded in jail for allegedly killing another man with a shovel. The accused, a resident of Sango-Ota, is facing a charge of murder at a Magistrates’ court, sitting in Ota, Ogun state. The police prosecutor, Corporal Olumide Awoleke, told the court that Mustapha murdered a certain Idemudia Christopher by hitting him on the head with a shovel on 15 July.
According to the prosecutor, the incident occured at Isheri-Olofin area of Sango-Ota, stating that the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Abimbola, ordered that the accused be held behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the murder charge. Abimbola subsequently adjourned the case to 10 December for hearing.
