Two suspected cultists, who are students of Yaba College of Technology, have been nabbed for threatening to kill their lecturer, Mrs Abraham Ibe. The pair, 24-year-old Tayo Ogunyomi and 28-year-old Kehinde Olaoye, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday, 28 October. The offences were committed on 16 October at 9 pm on the school campus.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momah, the accused had been earlier caught cheating during a recent examination conducted in the school, adding that the students sent text messages to the phone of their lecturer, threatening to kill her. Momah said, “They sent text messages to Mrs Ibe stating that they were ‘Axe men’ and members of the Aye confraternity, a secret society. They stated also in their message that they would exterminate her.”
The suspects were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of public peace and membership of an unlawful society.The accused would however, plead not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Erinle, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 each with two sureties each in like sum, while adjourning the case till 11 November.
