EIGHTEEN year old Aisha Jibrin has been charged with culpable homicide in Bauchi State for killing her husband who constantly beat her by pouring hot water over him resulting in his death. Appearing at the Magistrate’s Court Seven in Bauchi, Aisha has been charged with culpable homicide punishable under Section 224 of the Penal Code. She was said to have poured hot water over her husband Ladan Mohammed, while he was taking his bath, leading to him dying after being rushed to hospital.
According to Aisha, her husband constantly beat her and in the latest incident, she lost one of her front teeth after she was beaten for apparently going for an abortion without his consent. Eyewitnesses say that on October 8, Aisha burnt her husband to death at their residence in Jahun Ward in Bauchi Metropolis, at about 5pm. According to a close family friend, problems started for the newly-wedded Aisha when news of the abortion reached her husband. Ladan beat her up and in response, she poured hot water over him but Ladan's brother, Nasiru Mohammed, reported the matter at the Dutse Tanshi Police Station and Aisha was arrested and charged to court. Isa El-Shuaibu, the chief magistrate presiding over the case, has adjourned the matter until Tuesday October 28, for further hearing. Investigating police officer, Abdulahi Adamu, shall be giving evidence for the prosecution.
