A 37-year-old Nigerian, Beauty Fabine, has been charged to Takoradi Circuit Court “B”, Ghana, for human trafficking.
Fabine is accused of trafficking a certain Chioma Johnson, 21, from Rivers State to Ghana for prostitution.
Prosecutor, Police Inspector, Felix Danku, told the court presided by Mr. Justice Charles Nimako that the victim
was trafficked by the accused from Port Harcourt to Ghana. He said on July 25 this year, the accused who lives in Takoradi went to Nigeria apparently to traffic ladies between 18 and 21 years purposely for prostitution.
Giving a detailed breakdown of the story, Danku said that security operatives had it that the accused returned to Ghana with Chioma and paid all her travelling expenses from Lagos to Takoradi. He said the defendant camped Chioma to make her start prostitution and to pay her an amount of 4,100 Ghana Cedis. But before the amount was paid, a quarrel ensued between them and the victim packed out of the house.
On August 21 this year, the accused was said to have spotted Chioma in a taxi, where she attacked and threatened the complainant who rushed to Police Station for assistance and Fabine was arrested.
The Police Inspector said that during interrogation, the accused admitted having trafficked the victim to Ghana with the help of a “School mother” called Happiness. He also revealed that the accused escape from Police custody but was re-arrested and charged after further investigations.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of 10,000 Ghana Cedis with two sureties to re-appear in court on September 8 this year.
