On Wednesday, 3 September, a fight broke out between two women after one accused the other of being involved in witchcraft.
The incident happened at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Makurdi, Benue state during their monthly Power Night program.
The ruckus started when an unidentified woman who was in deep reflection suddenly jumped up, and attacked another woman, identified as ‘Christy’.
While tugging at the woman, she shouted that it had been revealed to her that she was a witch.
The congregation tried to intervene, but the woman was adamant, insisting that she was going to expose her witchcraft before the crowd.
She said “Christy is the cause of many problems in people’s lives. She has been destroying people’s families, enough is enough.”
As the congregation tried to quell the fight, the accused woman also responded violently, tearing her attacker’s cloth, while still inside the church.
As the other worshippers attempted to calm frayed nerves, the worship session was abruptly interrupted, after which she they were taken outside.
One of the members said that it is possible that the woman actually got a revelation from a spirit in her prayers, which prompted her to behave that way.
“I just believe she was under the influence of the holy ghost. She couldn’t have accused the woman falsely when they just met in church.”
Meanwhile, another member said, “The woman who said sister Christy is a witch is probably a new member because I have never seen her in this church before, so I don’t know her name.”
