A group of highway oil hijackers, which include fake military officers, has been apprehended by the operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad after five operations.
Officers of the Lagos State Police Command arrested the six-man robbery gang whose members disguised as military and highway traffic task officials to hijack and divert trucks conveying petroleum products.
The syndicate was reportedly intercepted by officials of SARS during its fifth operation.
According to a police source, they had the first operation in August 2013 where they allegedly diverted a truck to a filling station in Ikorodu between 3 am and 4 am while the victim driver of the truck has remained hospitalized ever since.
In its second outing, the gang stole a PMS truck between Ijora and Apapa, Lagos in March 2014, selling the content valued atN3 million to another filling station in Ajah, Lagos for a much reduced price of N1.3 million.
They had the third operation at Iyana Oworo, Lagos where they hijacked a truck conveying diesel and sold it to a filling station in Ikorodu, and they stole a truck containing diesel, during their fourth job, at a gunpoint around Toyota bus-stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway on 18 July, 2014.
The fifth operation occurred in Lagos on 21 July when they snatched a truck containing petrol on its way to Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The suspects, 48-year old Okoh Patrick, and 32-year-old Aniekan Emmanuel,took on the disguise of military officers, the former,a combatant soldier, and the latter, a merchant naval officer.
Four other suspected members of the gang arrested by SARS include Alex Ogbu Ugbuagu, Izuchukwu Udeagwu, Evans Boniface, and Taiwo Oyadara.
