27-YR-OLD MAN ATTEMPTS TO RAPE 53-YR-OLD WOMAN

A 27-year-old driver, Niyi Adeyemi, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for assault of a 53-year-old woman.

Niyi Adeyemi was accused of attempting to rape on the teacher while she was having her bath, at No. 40, Olarokun St., Orile, Lagos.

The accused was charged on a three-count of attempted rape, assault occasioning harm and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi,who told the court that the accused committed the offences at 2 am, on September 4 said: “Adeyemi barged into the bathroom while the complainant was having her bathe and tried to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her.”

“He assaulted the complainant with a fist blow on her eyes when she resisted and tried to raise attention for rescue.

“Adeyemi escaped from the scene, stole the complainant’s phone valued N40,000 and also took her towel with him,” the inspector said.

The accused have however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum ofN100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to October 6.

Meanwhile Adeyemi if found guilty faces possible 14 years imprisonment (section 260), as his act contravened sections 171, 260 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
