10 BAD BEAUTY HABITS AND HOW TO BREAK THEM

1. No More Sleeping With Your Make-Up On
What on earth happened to your lashes? And look at those black rings under your eyes. Wouldn’t it be easier—on your eyes and everybody else’s—if you took off your make-up at night? Better for your skin, too. For stubborn mascara, there is Very Effective Eye Makeup Remover. For the rest of your face, Skin Deep Milky Cleanser. They have only take a minute or two, and Elizabeth Arden makes them both.

2. No More Biting
This is a dreadful habit. It pulls your face out of shape. It leaves your mouth feeling sore and tender. And to break yourself of it takes a lot of effort. One thing that helps is Bonne Bell’s Kristi Lip Coat. So does their refreshing Lip Smacker—and the newest flavor is a delicious Seven Up.
3. No More Slouching
It’s bad enough that slouching makes you look awful. But it also puts a burden on your back muscles. And who needs that? Here is the exercise that Lydia Bach of the Lotte Berk Method Studio says will get you standing tall and relaxed: Take a pole and hold it horizontally. Slowly lift it as high as you can over your head. Then slowly lower it behind your back. Repeat 5 times, inhaling as you lift the pole and exhaling as you lower it.
4. No More Snacks At Bedtime
The worst time to eat is just before you go to bed, according to California beauty expert Aida Grey. All those unburned calories, she says, turn into extra pounds—and puffy “morning after” eyes are another unwanted result. If you must munch at midnight, have an orange or a little yogurt. Or try a glass of warm milk—it is guaranteed to out you right to sleep.
5. No More Propping Your Chin On Your Hands
This is no help to your chin line. And no help to your elbows. And, for that matter, no great help to the way you look. Just make a point of sitting up tall—so your back is straight, your shoulders down, your chin level. And now for the hard part: Keep your hands on the table or in your lap.
6. No More Pouring On Perfume
It’s wonderful that you like perfume that much. But do resist the urge to positively pour it on. Perfume should make you nice to be near. But when the scent is overpowering, you end up losing your audience. If you like to be lavish with fragrance, splash on something light—cologne or eau de toilette.
7. No More Biting Your Nails
The trouble is that half the time you don’t even know you are doing it. That is why you might find this suggestion from Valerie of Valerie Sculpt-A-Nail a handy one to try: When you are just sitting at home in the evening and reading or writing letters or doing bills, put on a pair of drugstore cotton gloves. If you find this uncomfortable—some people cant stand gloves—try Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails. Haven’t you noticed that anyone with strong nails is much less tempted to bite?
8. No More Squinting And Frowning
This is absolutely the worst, because no matter how often people tell you not to do it, you keep right on—without having the faintest idea that your forehead is a mass of lines. Check your eye doctor to see if you need glasses. Always wear good sunglasses when you are out in the sun. And the rest of the time, simply try not to look so worried and puzzled.
9. No More Picking At Your Face
How many times have you seen someone unconsciously working away at a pimple while talking on the phone or mulling over some work? Squeezing a blackhead is fine if done properly. And a white head can be taken care of the same way. But what we are concerned with here is gouging—not squeezing—and it’s why so many young people do absent-mindedly. It is also why they have so many unsightly scars on their face.
10. No More Fiddling With Your Hair
You often see people pulling on a strand of their hair as they talk. And there is just enough of a tug to cause damage over a period of time. First one hair, then another, and then another falls out. Because, as with any nervous habit, people don’t simply do it now and again. They do it constantly. And before they know it, they have lost quite a lot of hair.
