TASK FORCE NABS 13 FOR DRUG PEDDLING

The Lagos State Taskforce on Environment al and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 13 suspected hard drug peddlers in the Lekki area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects were nabbed after officials of the task force stormed their hideout on Wole Olateru Street, Lekki Phase 1 on Tuesday.

Chairman of the task force, Bayo Sulaiman, a Chief Superintendent of Police, on Wednesday said the exercise was long overdue.
He added that the residents of the area had written several complaints to the government on activities of the arrested suspects and others at large.
He explained that as soon as the unit got the complaint letters, it took its time in investigating the case before swinging into action on Tuesday.
He added that the task force would continue to raid other black spots and would not stop until drug peddling was wiped out from the state.
Sulaiman said the suspects would be charged to court, adding that the law must take its course.
He said, “We are going to charge them to court. This is a warning to others that the Lekki area and indeed the entire Lagos State will not welcome drug peddling.
“Drug peddlers must stay away from this state.
“Hard drugs consumption makes people to get high, which often lead to cases of stabbing, killing and other vices.”
He said hard drugs recovered at the scene included cannabis and some routine drugs used for treating common cold,ý but which could be mixed together to get high.
Sulaiman added that some charms were also recovered by the taskforce during the raid.
One of the suspects, Buhari Muhammed, told PUNCH Metro that he had been in the business for about two years and had made lots of money.
“I make thousands of naira every day from this business. Many people ─ both men and women ─ come here to buy drugs; some come with big cars to my place to buy drugs.
