A young girl left home alone was stranded on a rain cover more than 50ft above ground after clambering out of a fifth floor window to try to find her mum.
The eight-year-old girl screamed for help for half an hour before a neighbour finally heard her desperate cries.
A firefighter managed to reach the girl by climbing from a nearby window of the apartment block in Chongqing Municipality, China.
He tied a rope around the girl, and both were lifted to safety.
The neighbour, who has not been named, said: "I heard a little girl crying for her mother, but couldn't find the source of the voice."
He finally spotted her on the rain cover.
"It was very heart-squeezing as the rain cover was tilting and she could slip down at any second."
Officials said the young girl, who has not been named, had been left at home while her mother was at work. She decided to climb out of the window to look for her mother but became stuck.
