A little Indian girl buried alive “rose from the dead” as she was discovered by one of the locals.
According to police, relatives of the 7-year-old child, whose name was not provided, allegedly first tried to strangle the girl and then left her to die in a grave, BBC reports. The motive of the wicked act are yet to be identified by the investigators.
The police are in search of her mother, uncle and aunt who were said to have gone on the run after the incident.
Buried alive in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, the girl was discovered by the villager who immediately alerted the police. The child was rushed to the hospital and now is reportedly feeling well.
The man who save the girl’s life narrated that he had heard muffled crying in the middle of the field. Following the sound he soon saw the soil moving.
Local police chief Rajesh Krishna told the journalists that the girl started removing the soil of the shallow grave upon regaining consciousness and added:
“Then she sat there and cried loudly when the villager spotted her. There are strangulation marks around the girl’s neck.”
The girl’s father when questioned by the police said he had no idea about the attack on his child who lives with her mother, as the spouses live separately.
BBC recalls that the cases of girls’ murders are not rare in India where women are subject to social discrimination because girls are associated with financial burden especially in poor communities.
In 2012 police arrested the man who tried to bury alive his 2-month-old daughter with the help of her uncle. He was allegedly advised to do so by a spiritual guru to help secure the good health of his next child.
The two men wrapped the crying child into a cloth along with some religious symbols. However police was alerted by the caretaker who said some people had brought for the burial the alive baby.
