The Police in Lagos, Tuesday night, foiled attempt by a 15-man robbery gang to carry out a robbery operation in Alagbado area of Lagos, arresting six suspected members of the gang.
Recovered from the suspects said to have been apprehended in a hotel, were two double barrel pistols, three fully loaded AK-47 magazines, an English revolver and a catchment of ammunition.
The robbers were said to have parked their operational vehicle, a Volkswagen Vanagon bus, two buildings from the hotel they lodged, apparently waiting for an auspicious time to strike.
A concerned customer later discovered to be an undercover policeman, was said to have overhead some members of the gang discussing their mission and immediately called his colleagues.
Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja were reportedly alerted, consequent upon which the Commander, Abba Kyari, deployed two teams to the hotel.
A gun battle was said to have ensued between the robbers and policemen, at the end of which six suspected members of the gang were arrested while others escaped.
The Lagos State Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the arrest, gave the identities of those arrested as Taofeek Sawubana, 31, Ganiyu Suleiman, 28; Kehinde Abachi, 26; Adewale Ojerinde, 28; Wasiu Fatai and a 27-year-old simply called Friday, who sustained bullet wound.
Kolle said policemen were on the trail of the fleeing suspects, adding that those arrested would soon be charged to court.
