MAN STRANGLES WIFE TO DEATH IN IBADAN

Residents of Ajiyo Olokun Olunde area, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday, woke up to the wailings of a middle-aged woman, who was strangulated by her husband, Saidina Yusuf.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the neighbours were alerted by the shout of people living with the victim’s family, while Yusuf carried out the dastardly act. One of the landlords in the area, Mr Yusuf Rasaq, who spoke with newsmen, said he was coming from the mosque around 6.30 a.m when he was alerted by neighbours. He added that immediately, he went to their apartment to confront the man.

According to Rasaq, when he got to Yusuf’s house and asked him why he killed his wife, popularly called “Iya Ologi and Iya Rilwan,” he said the man could not give any tangible reason for doing so, but gave a graphic detail of how he killed his wife. Rasaq said the deceased’s husband informed that he was standing right behind his wife in the walkway, looking at her from behind and just slided and strangulated her. He, however, informed the Nigerian Tribune that the man was suffering from mental disorder for sometime, but hinted that he had since being treated before he returned to the neighbourhood last week. He said Yusuf was thought to have been responding to treatment and had since been relating well with people before Wednesday’s incident.

The suspect had since been arrested by the police from Atagba police station as of the time of filing this report. Also, family members were seen gathering at the house to put finishing touches to getting police’s clearance to bury the deceased.
