Fashion trends have been evolving rapidly since 2010, especially among youths. Outfits, accessories, hairstyles, etc, that our parents rocked in the 60s and 70s have been resuscitated. Crop tops which were worn way back then and dropped due to decency concerns are currently vintage fashion.
Lots of ladies are now comfortable with exposing just a bit of their midriff. Some celebrities and even regular ladies have set the trend into motion. Some rock it classily, others fall fashion short! Check out these ladies who have done it right!
Yvonne Nelson: The 29 year old Ghanaian actress/model wears a red armless crop-top with a blue high waist pencil skirt, finishing up with a pair of black pointed heels. The colours blend even though they clash- this is a fashion trend called colour blocking.
She has several movies, entrepreneurial activities and brand representations to her credit. Her slim physique, beauty and talent have helped solidify her career a great deal.
The former Miss Ghana contestant produced, House of Gold, Yvonne’s Tears and acted in Gold Digging, Single and Married, One Night in Vegas and a host of other movies.
Aimiwu Clifford: The style can be sown with any fabric like ankara, chiffon or lace, among other fabrics. The upcoming artiste’s skirt and crop top outfit is worn as a Friday wear. In this case, the ankara high waist pencil skirt is combined with an even crop top.
Television series like Learning Curves, Car Hire and Our Lucky Day are part of the Delta State model’s repertoire.
Ebube Nwagbo: In the picture, the actress rocks a black armless top with leather leggings and pink pointed heels highlighting the black outfit.
In reality, controversy can mar an entertainer’s career. The Nigerian entertainment industry should long have forgotten Ebube given the number of scandals trailing after her.
But the fair and beautiful owner of Posh Hairline, who hails from Anambra State, has been able to weather the storm on several occasions.
Rukayat Sanda: Rukky decided to tone down her patterned crop top with a blazer and matching light blue pants for an event. She wore the outfit to Geneieve Nnaji’s… in 2012, long before the trend came back fully.
The script writer entered into the entertainment industry as an undergraduate of University of Lagos in 2004. The first movie she produced, Lethal Woman, was shot with N3 million naira.
Joselyn Canfor Dumas: The prominent Ghanian television presenter with killer hips, rocks an all white, high-waisted pencil skirt and a crop top.
In 2012, she featured in Adams Apples and was selected as the face of Range Rover Evoque in Ghana. She was recently trailed by rumours of an affair with actor John Dumelo, stemming from their roles in A Northern Affair. The role earned her the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a leading role.
Kelly Rowland: She was in Victoria Island, Nigeria early part of the year to perform and co-host Darey’s Love Like a Movie II Concert. She was wearing an Ankara midriff and pants (designer unknown) for an interview, and some funky pattern material that resembles Ankara in her performance. Her abs is awesome.
The American pop star has also started associating herself with several African paints, which has become rampant among a notable number of designers.
Solgane Knowles: The talented R&B singer/actress wears a matching her Ankara with a very edgy beaded midriffs. Beyoncé’s younger sister also knows the best to represent outstanding fashion trend. In most of her recent video, she is always rocking a touch of Ankara.
