75-year-old Spanish missionary priest, Miguel Pajares, who contracted Ebola virus while in Liberia has been confirmed dead in a hospital in Madrid.
The priest’s death was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the city's health authorities on Tuesday.
Father Pajares was being treated in the Carlos III hospital, where he had been quarantined since he got into Spain from Africa.
He was reportedly treated with the experimental drug ZMapp, manufactured by U.S. company Mapp Biopharmaceutical which was given to two other American workers who had contracted the disease and are now showing signs of improvement since the drug was administered.
Pajares becomes the first European to be taken down by the deadly disease.
