'Jihadi John', the British man who has featured in the execution videos of terrorist group, ISIS has been identified as Mohammed Emwazi. Emwazi, who has featured in a few ISIS beheading videos, is said to be a young British man from West London who was known to British security services. He was born in Kuwait and comes from an affluent family in London, where he grew up and graduated with a computer programming degree, according to the
Washington Post. Emwazi is believed to have killed American journalist, James Foley in a video released last August and also featured in the videos of the beheadings of US journalist, Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver, Alan Henning, and US aid worker, Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known as Peter. In the ISIS videos, ‘Jihadi John’ , who speaks with a British accent, is seen dressed in black and brandishing a knife which he later uses to decapitate his victims.
“He was like a brother to me … I am sure it is him. There was an extremely strong resemblance. This is making me feel fairly certain that this is the same person,” a friend of Emwazi’s told Wahington Post.
British government sources however refused to confirm or deny the reports. “We don't confirm or deny matters relating to intelligence, I am not going to get into the details of an ongoing police and security investigation,” a spokeswoman said. Emwazi is believed to have traveled to Syria in 2012 where he later joined the terrorist group.
