WOMAN BAGS 266-YR JAIL TERM FOR THEFT

The court found the convict guilty on all the 34-count charges. She was sentenced to seven years on each of 30 counts and 14 years on the remaining four charges. The sentences are to run concurrently. This means that the sentences will be run simultaneously. Her action is contrary to sections 390(6)(7)(8), 467 and 468 respectively of the Criminal Code Law Cap 29, Laws of Ogun State.

EXCESS VITAMINS INTAKE CAN CAUSE CANCER


Excessive intake of vitamins can cause cancer. This is according to a new research finding by Dr Tim Byers who is the associate director for prevention and control at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and one of the world’s top cancer experts Byers who admitted to not being sure why this was the case said taking extra vitamins “does more harm than good” and increases the risk of cancer and heart disease.
The cancer expert who examined research papers spanning 30 years looked at three widely taken ­over-the-counter pills and supplements - vitamin E tablets, beta-carotene and folic acid, and warned against exceeding the recommended daily amount.

TCN SEEKS ELECTRICITY TARIFF INCREASE TO EXPAND NETWORK

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has applied to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to review its tariff upward. The TCN, which is still under government ownership and control, is being managed by a private firm, Canada’s Manitoba Hydro International under a three-year contract. NERC, in its consultation paper for the review of the TCN tariff under the multi-year tariff order methodology, said TCN claimed that a number of significant changes had taken place or were expected in 2015/16 since MYTO-2 tariffs were determined three years ago.

NNPC HAS STARTED REFUNDING UNREMITTED $1.48BN –ALISON MADUEKE

The Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Wednesday disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has started refunding the $1.48bn unremitted fund into the Federation Account as recommended by an audit firm, PriceWaterHouse Coopers. She however did not disclose how much has for far been refunded by the corporation. She also denied reports that she was seeking the assistance of some highly-placed persons in order to escape prosecution for alleged corruption from the incoming administration of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
