WHY NIGERIA CANCELLED US MILITARY TRAINING - FG

The Federal Government, yesterday, gave reason for the cancellation of the training of Nigerian soldiers by American security experts, attributing it to logistic problem.

The U.S. Government, through its Embassy in Abuja on Monday said in a statement that “At the request of the Nigerian government, the United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army battalion.”

FISHERMAN ALLEGEDLY KILLS COLLEAGUE OVER N3,500

A 37-year-old fisherman, Taiye Agbaje, was yesterday, remanded in prison custody by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Oyingbo, Lagos, for allegedly killing his colleague, Monday Ukoro, 29, over N3,500. Magistrate K. Ariyo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.

EKITI INSECURITY: FAYOSE MEETS POLICE AUTHORITIES

Worried by the recent cases of mayhem threatening the security of lives and properties in Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose, on Monday, swiftly called a meeting of the police authorities in the state, among other stakeholders, so as to take a proactive measure to address the problem.

Recall that in the last few weeks, no fewer than three bank robbery operations were recorded in different parts of the state, leading to the loss of lives, among whom were police officers and a female member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

A former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United, Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, on Thursday condemned President Goodluck Jonathan for not showing the right leadership in the manner he had been handling his responsibilities as the nation’s leader. He spoke at the sixth Christopher Kolade Symposium organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative, an organisation he was a pioneer patron.. He made specific reference to Jonathan’s decision to honour a political rally in Kano shortly after a bombing that killed several people early in the year, saying the best he could have done was “to postpone the political event.”

Five Peoples Democratic Party governors led by the Chairman, PDP Governors Forum, and governor, Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday held a closed-door meeting, which lasted for three hours, with the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Other governors on the trip are the governors of Bauchi, Jigawa, Cross River, and Niger states, Isa Yuguda, Sule Lamido, Liyel Imoke and Babangida Aliyu respectively.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Mr. Anthony Agidi, for allegedly belonging to a gang which abducted a female bank worker, Mrs. Ladi Garba, in July this year. source learnt that the abduction of Garba was one out of eight operations which the gang had carried out in Delta and Lagos states. According to the police, Garba was an employee of Keystone Bank when she was kidnapped by the gang in the Lekki area of Lagos. Our correspondent gathered that the 33-year-old suspect was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at about 2pm

INDIAN BABY SWALLOWS KNIFE WORN AROUND HIS NECK TO WARD OFF EVIL SPIRITS

A protective knife worn around a baby’s neck to ward off evil spirits was a source of harm to the baby instead of protecting him. The six-month-old baby, Dev Thakor, swallowed the knife by accident while he was feeding from her mum breast. Dev had been wearing the knife on a string around his neck as a local tradition in India. According to the toddler’s father, Bharat Thakor, the baby suddenly started crying and screaming, which prompted the family to observe him and noticed that something had gone wrong. After they noticed that the knife was missing, Dev Thakor was quickly rushed to the hospital where an x-ray confirmed that he had swallowed the penknife.
