The suspects, identified as Olabode Toyese, Abayomi Odeleye and Kazeem Adeyemo were nabbed after a woman, who had fallen victim to their charm, reported her ordeals at the police station.
According to the state command’s spokesman, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police,
the suspects usually made use of different commercial taxis painted in Ogun State colour for their operations, Punch reports.
He said: “They look for passengers and lure them into discussions on attractive, but dubious businesses which will eventually make any unsuspecting passenger to join the discussion. They will eventually hypnotise their victims and dupe them.”
He added that the suspects have been in the business for a long time and had collected money and valuables from the woman who reported them and other victims.
He explained that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to duping the woman and also many other unresolved crimes in the state, adding that the kingpin said he used to operate in Lagos before he moved to Abeokuta.
Mr. Muyiwa said the the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye had ordered a thorough investigation into the case be carried out, while other crimes that the men had confessed to be resolved.
The state commissioner also urged the people of the state to be cautious of those who might bring unusually enticing business proposals to them, adding that they would end up duping them.
